SHILLONG: The wife of an Assam Rifles jawan, Sadhana Borai faced harassment after she went to meet her husband who was posted as the quarter guard at Assam Rifle here on Friday to demand justice on behalf of her husband, Vikas Chandra Borai.

According to the wife, Borai (37) a resident of Uttarakhand (posted in Shillong) has been a constable at the Assam Rifles for the past 17 years. Recently, apparently unhappy over his salary, he climbed atop a 200 ft tall transmission tower, demanding better pay and promotion.

In this regard, the higher authority assured to look into the matter and promised that justice would be done. “They had promised to call him for an interview for a higher post on Friday, however, instead of that, he was posted as a quarter guard at the Assam Rifles,” the wife said.

She had gone to protest against the false assurance given by the higher authorities on behalf of her husband and in this stead, the Assam rifles officials had threatened to call the police and arrest her.

It was learnt that the police are considering of releasing and dropping the lady and her children back home. When contacted, police denied detaining the lady and said that the Shillong police had no nothing to do with this issue.
