Itanagar: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has restored the surface communication between Aalo and Mechukha in West Siang district which was disrupted last week following rain triggered landslides.

The road, which served as the lifeline for the people of the district was finally opened to traffic on Saturday after painstaking efforts by the BRO for days together, official sources said here today. The BRO authorities pressed into service its men and material resources on a war-footing about a week after the said road was extensively damaged by rain-triggered flash flood and landslides on the intervening night of September 6, sources said.

The flash flood in Kangi Nallahpoint had resulted in irreparable damage to the under-construction RCC bridge along the said route as its supporting staging was washed out by heavy boulders and wooden logs.

Road link to Mechukha had remained disrupted since then due to excessive sinking of road at Km 14. 70 point where approx 130 meters of road had been washed out. The Bailey steel bridge launched at Km 14.93 had also been damaged extensively. (PTI)
