SHILLONG: The ongoing rift between the GNLA and the ANVC has turned bitter with the latter offering its ‘help’ to the Government neutralise the most active militant outfit of the State.

A delegation of the militant outfit, which is under truce with the government, met Principal Secretary of the State Home department, KS Kropha and ADGP (SB), SK Jain on Friday and expressed their willingness to get involved in the ongoing anti-insurgency drive in Garo Hills.

“We will extend all our help to the State Government to neutralise GNLA,” ANVC spokesperson Torik Jangning Marak said after the meeting with the two officials.

The ANVC also raised the issue of delay in paying the allowance to its cadres during the meeting. The 179 cadres of the outfit have not received their monthly allowance Rs 3000 since January this year.

On a recent allegation made by a reader in The Shillong Times website that the ANVC was indulging in illegal activities, the spokesperson said, “If people have any complaints, they should lodge FIR against us.”

The unnamed reader alleged that ANVC ‘chairman’ Dilash Marak was getting major PWD contracts and allowed to bring his coal from Nangalbibra to Tura besides that the outfit was involved in ‘tax’ collection from Tura Bazaar.

Without specifying the kind of work the cadres are doing, Marak said, “We are trying to earn something as our cadres and families are dependent on us. If what we are doing is wrong, we are ready for any inquiry.”
