NEIFT prepares for festival at Milan on Sept 9

Shillong, Sep 3: North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) is organising the 17th Edition of the mega event ‘Celebrating North East India Festival’ in association with Consulate General of India, Milan, at the historic museum Villa Necchi Campiglio, in Milan — one of the recognised fashion capitals of the world — on September 9.
After the stupendous success of last year’s International Edition at Washington D.C., USA, this is a huge challenge before NIFT, led by its CEO and the director of festival Vikram Rai Medhi to showcase the rich heritage of traditional sustainable textiles of the North East region in the Mecca of fashion – Milan.
Vikram Rai Medhi said, “The Meghalaya Tourism and Nagaland Tourism have come forward to join hands in presenting the vibrant region of the country to the Who’s Who of Milan’s cultural connoisseurs and political leaders. Ministry of DoNER, Ministry of Textiles, KVIC, Ministry of MSME, etc. have come forward to support us to make the festival successful.”
Ranald Wahlang of Meghalaya Tourism, while addressing the media, said that this festival would give an opportunity to Meghalaya to showcase its natural tourism potentials to niche European tourists to bring them here.
Lisapila Aier, senior PRO, Nagaland government, said that the festival at Milan will be a curtain raiser for Hornbill Festival which is going to celebrate its silver jubilee next year..
Eight Fashion Designers from NER will display their exotic collection in sustainable textiles and weaves of the North East to be showcased by the top models of fashion industry of Milan.
