BAGHMARA, Sep 3: The failure in completing the polytechnic institute in South Garo Hills district that was started in the year 2019 has drawn criticisms from the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and locals.
The Gasuapara unit of GSU has questioned the state authorities over the inordinate delay in completion of the institute.
Following complaints over the project being abandoned, a joint visit to the place where construction was taking place was paid by the local unit of the GSU and residents who were shocked at the sight they witnessed.
“We were shocked to see the situation with the under construction building as after the creation of the slab of the building it has been abandoned. This project could have provided so many opportunities to students from our region but to see it being wasted this way is shameful,” felt GSU secretary Sengrik Marak.
The abandoned building was apparently contracted to the wife of an MLA but was later sub contracted to a resident of Dalu in West Garo Hills.
The NGO has appealed to the department concerned as well as the Education minister seeking the completion of the project as it would mean a world of opportunities to an area that hardly has anything of note to boast of.
