Shillong, Sept 9: Meghalaya Government is caught in a fix over the controversy around allocation of MBBS seats under the State quota.

The KSU which is unhappy and is doubting the credentials of 9 applicants, met the Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday to express their opposition to the matter. Earlier, even the VPP leaders met the Health Minister on the matter.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the KSU is doubting the credibility of the certificate submitted by some applicants

Informing that the Central Government on Sunday night announced two more medical seats for the state, the Minister made it clear that the state would have revised list.

As KSU is doubting the credentials of certificate by some applicants, the Government just recently had asked all the concern DCs to verify the documents of those applicants and based on the verification, the Government announced the list.

However, KSU is not satisfied that verification done at the district is as per order and hence the Minister feels that this is a fit case for re-verification.

The Minister during the meeting also asked KSU to submit a formal complaint.

According to Lyngdoh, the Government has already ensured that every applicant signs an undertaking that if any of their documents is  found to be fraudulent , their seat will be forfeited.

However, the State is not in a position to further delay the allotment of seats and students have been already given deadline by the medical institutes to join their academic session at the earliest.

Lyngdoh also asserted that the Government will not hold the entire list and they would be allowed to go ahead and claim their seats but if any defect crops up in re-verification of the documents, those seats will have to be revoked

Meanwhile KSU general secretary Donald Thabah said that as per their research, some people who are dubious citizens have applied and were even selected for the MBBS seat from the state quota

According to KSU leader, one of the eligibility of applying for MBBS is that the applicant must have a permanent resident certificate but 9 of them have submitted only their provisional permanent resident certificate which is either valid for 3 or 12 months.
