SHILLONG, Sep 5: A day after HITO members went up in arms against the police over the issue of ‘black uniforms’ leading to the arrest of some of its members and a few cops getting injured, MDA Spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh has deemed the law and order situation in the state to be satisfactory with there being no “major disruptions”.
“Overall, we have not had any major disruptions and there will always be isolated incidents,” Lyngdoh, who is also a Cabinet minister, said.
It becomes pertinent here to note that incidents of law and order breakdown have of late been reported on few occasions from the state.
Recently, Meghalaya Police personnel were chased away by Karbi villagers in Lapangap. On the other hand, a protesting crowd turned violent in East Jaintia Hills prompting the police to resort to lathicharge.
The government spokesperson however has remarked that dissenters must feel free to come to the table for negotiations if they have grievances instead of taking it to the streets, which, according to him, means taking the entire city into ransom.
