Shillong, September 6: Chip manufacturer NXP Semiconductors has confirmed a data breach, notifying customers about a recent incident involving their personal data.

As per IANS, the breach came to light through Troy Hunt, owner of Have I Been Pwned, who shared the email sent by NXP to affected customers.

According to the email, NXP identified inactive user profiles on its NXP.com website as part of an incident that occurred on July 11, 2023. The incident potentially exposed customers’ email addresses, but no other personal data was affected.

Upon discovering the breach, NXP initiated an internal investigation and activated incident response procedures. The incident response team took immediate measures to contain the situation and promptly informed the authorities. While no evidence suggests fraudulent use of the data, NXP is reaching out to all affected users as a precaution.

NXP urged people to remain vigilant against unsolicited communications requesting personal information or containing suspicious links. The company emphasized that it does not proactively request personal or confidential information from users and encouraged recipients to report any such requests as phishing attempts.

A spokesperson for NXP told TechCrunch that an “unauthorized party” had accessed “basic personal information” from a system connected to NXP’s online portal.
