Militants killed in encounter

Srinagar: Two militants, who were holed up in a house at Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara, were killed while searches were still going on in the area.

Lt Colonel J S Brar, a Srinagar based defence spokesman told UNI that bodies of two militants were recovered from the house which was damaged in the encounter.

Searches of debris were going on, he said when asked if there were also other militants in the house.

He said operation was launched at Bhagatpora, Handwara, in the frontier district of Kupwara when a tip off was received about the presence of some militants there.

However, when the security forces were sealing the area and moving towards the particular house, militants opened fire with automatic weapons.

Security forces immediately sealed the entire area and rescued all residents in the nearby houses. (UNI)
