Shillong, September 7: X Corp, previously known as Twitter, has introduced a new feature allowing users to add community notes to misleading or AI-generated videos on its platform. While the fact-checking feature was initially designed for flagging fake or deceptive images and text, it has now been extended to videos.

As per IANS, in an update, the company stated, “Not just for images anymore, introducing notes on videos. Notes written on videos will automatically show on other posts containing matching videos.”

X Corp sees this as a scalable way to provide context for edited clips, AI-generated videos, and more. Initially, the feature is available to top writers and eligible Community Notes contributors.

According to X’s guidelines, when a Community Note receives a sufficient number of helpful ratings from users, it will be displayed directly on the post. Conversely, if users deem a Community Note unhelpful, it will disappear. After two weeks, the status of a Community Note becomes locked.

These notes will automatically appear on posts that contain matching images, which is particularly effective for addressing AI-generated images, edited photos, and similar content.

Additionally, contributors with a Writing Impact score of 10 or higher will have the option to mark their notes as ‘About the image’ if they believe the media itself is potentially misleading, regardless of the specific tweet it accompanies.

The community notes feature, originally called Birdwatch, was launched by Elon Musk last year and has since expanded to serve various purposes on the platform.
