SWKH set to get 1st ITI

MAWKYRWAT, Sep 7: In a bid to empower the youth of South West Khasi Hills, a village in Mawkyrwat called Sakwang is set to become the home of the district’s first Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
The institute is nearing completion and only the external electrification work and water connectivity remains pending, informed Mayralborn Syiem, who visited to inspect the under construction institute as the Chairman of Assembly Committee on Estimates.
The inspection of the ITI was part of the Estimate Committee’s two-day tour across four districts of the state, which includes West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, and South West Khasi Hills.
Committee Member of the Assembly Committee and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Tongkhar pointed out that students from the district will not have to travel to other districts for their education with the coming up of the ITI.
He expressed hope that once the institute is fully operational, the youth will have improved access to vocational skills.
Syiem also extended his gratitude to the Dorbar Shnong of Sakwang for donating approximately 4 acres of land to the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training under the Department of Labour for the ITI’s construction.
He elaborated that the ITI would offer training in five trades, including Surface Ornamentation Technique and Embroidery, Wireman, Office Assistant cum Computer Program, Multimedia-Animation-Special Effect, and Driver cum Mechanic.
The tour also included Committee Members Adelbert Nongrum, Miani D Shira, Wailadmiki Shylla, Arbingstone B Marak, Damanbait Lamare, Remington Momin, and officials of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
