NONGPOH: 45 youth, who had passed the District Selection Committee, 2010 from Ri Bhoi District, on Monday launched their second phase of agitation with an indefinite hunger strike to protest against the Government’s inaction in providing them placement in vacant posts in government department in the district.

The indefinite hunger strike began at the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises, but later they were forced to shift the venue. The agitators then gathered outside the Urban Shopping Complex, MUDA in Nongpoh and continued their hunger strike.

Those participating in the hunger strike included an expectant mother and three other women who joined in the hunger strike along with their children.

Ri Bhoi DSC Passed Candidates Association president B Sweetly, while speaking to The Shillong Times, said, “We are compelled to launch the indefinite hunger since the government is not paying any heed to our demands for placement in vacant posts and for the revalidation of the merit list of the DSC 2010.”

He also said that they would not call off their indefinite hunger strike until and unless the government accedes to their demands.
