JOWAI, Sep 10: A suspension footbridge was on Saturday inaugurated at Ialong village, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in West Jaintia Hills and a destination for anglers too.
The footbridge was inaugurated by Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla.
The local MLA lauded the effort of the village calling it the fulfillment of a much-needed infrastructure.
The bridge will pave way for farmers to ferry their agricultural produce with ease.
Moreover, the panoramic span of fertile farmland, besides attracting local tourists, can also become an enthralling spot for national and international interest as the abutting segment of the river has been declared as ‘Fish Sanctuary’ by the village.
The footbridge was built at a gross sanction of Rs 65 lakh through assistance from Thadlaskein C&RD Block in West Jaintia Hills and some donation from the village. The commencement of work started on February 2, 2016. The project, however, was deferred in a short while owing to inevitable circumstances. It finally went to a favourable outcome by dint of Waheh Chnong Perusal R Phawa’s intervention.
