MAWKYRWAT, Sep 11: The Synjuk Ki Myntri Shnong (SKMS) and the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mawkyrwat Circle on Monday resolved to meet Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong in a bid to mount pressure on the contractor engaged in construction of the Photjaud-Mawkhyrwang road in South West Khasi Hills to complete the work which he allegedly abandoned.
According to Bibstar Lyngkhoi, Myntri of Mawbri, the contractor, M/S Marwein Construction, had abandoned the construction work of the 19.300 km PMGSY road in May 2023. He had allegedly completed only 6 km of the stretch in almost five years.
Lyngkhoi said that the Chief Engineer of PWD (Roads) had recently said that the contractor had completed only about 40% of the construction work.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection of the road, president of the KSU Mawkyrwat Circle, Pauldeep Tongwah, flagged the negligence of the contractor. “…looking at the progress of the road, we are disappointed and it seems like a drama,” Tongwah said.
Tongwah said that the Union had from time to time met the Chief Engineer of PWD (Roads) as well as the Executive Engineer (EE) and urged them to instruct the contractor to finish the work, but all their efforts were in vain.
