Shillong, September 12: As Parliament staff prepares to transition to the new Parliament building for a special session, they will don distinctive new uniforms with a touch of Indian tradition.

As per India Today, the uniforms, designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), feature ‘Nehru jackets’ and khaki-colored pants, among other changes.

While the session is scheduled to commence on September 18, there will be a formal entry into the new Parliament building on September 19, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, following a brief ‘pooja’ ceremony.

The bureaucrats’ traditional bandhgala suits will be replaced with Magenta or deep pink Nehru jackets, complemented by deep pink shirts adorned with lotus flower designs. Khaki-colored pants complete the ensemble.

Even the attire of the marshals in both houses has been revamped, with them donning Manipuri turbans.

Additionally, the security personnel at the Parliament building will switch from safari suits to camouflage dresses, resembling military attire.

The special session of Parliament is set to commence on September 18 in the old building and will then shift to the new building on September 19, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on May 28 this year.

The session, spanning from September 18 to 22, will encompass five sittings, with members being informed of the provisional calendar separately, according to PTI.

The agenda for this “special session” was initially undisclosed, sparking speculation after it was announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on August 31.
