SHILLONG Sep 12: A six-wicket haul by Senggamchi N Sangma saw East Garo Hills District Cricket Association win their final group match of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-19 Girls Inter District Cricket Tournament against South Garo Hills DCA on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the other match had to be abandoned due to rain.
Senggamchi bagged 6/10 in 5 overs as EGH defended a low total of 51 in Zone 2 at Salpara, North Garo Hills. It was something of a dead rubber as SGH had already done enough to top the zonal standings with two prior victories, while EGH had lost both of their previous meetings.
EGH won the toss today and chose to bat first but were all out for 51. Kambesa A Sangma top-scored with 16 at the top of the order, while Rikmanchi M Sangma starred with 4/8 with the ball. Marme M Sangma (3/17), Dianchidora N Sangma (2/13) and Srijana Chetry (1/4) were the other wicket takers.
In the chase, no batter was able to get a start, with Senggamchi picking them off almost at will. SGH found it impossible to score off her bowling, though she did give away 10 wides. Kambesa (2/6) and Silkamchi Marak (2/13) claimed the other wickets as SGH were all out for 41.
Meanwhile, in Zone 1’s Group A, Ri-Bhoi DCA won the toss and opted to field first but they were only able to bowl 16.3 overs before rain ruined the match. In that time, East Khasi Hills CA had managed a score of 54/3.
The first semifinal will take place on Thursday between Ri-Bhoi and South Garo Hills. This will be followed by the second between Shillong Cricket Association (toppers of Zone 1’s Group B) and Tura DCA (runners-up of Zone 2) on Friday.
