Group seeks speedy passage of Traditional Medicine Bill
TURA, Sep 12: The Meghalaya Samachik Association on Tuesday met the Secretary of the GHADC and submitted a memorandum seeking the speedy processing of its demand for passing the GHADC (Protection and Promotion of Garo Traditional Medicine) Rules, Bill 2019. The association has been demanding the passing of the said bill since 2012. The draft bill to be forwarded to the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya was also submitted to the GHADC in 2019. Following the forwarding of the Draft Bill by the GHADC to Deputy Secretary, W Rapthat, the same was returned after proper examination, to the GHADC for rectification and necessary correction before re-submission. The association in the memorandum requested that necessary action be taken immediately with regard to the matter and the same re-submitted after necessary correction if any, to the concerned department to ensure its speedy passing.

 

15-day Sanskrit workshop
SHILLONG, Sep 12: Women’s College on Tuesday inaugurated a 15-day ‘Sanskrit Learning’ workshop being organised in collaboration with Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, and Sanskrit Bharati, Northeast. The inaugural ceremony of the workshop was graced by Swami Hitakamananda Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Shillong. The resource person for the workshop was Raj Kumar Bordaloi from the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi. In his speech, Swami Hitakamananda Maharaj congratulated the college for the initiative to uphold the ancient language of the country which is gender neutral in nature. A large number of students and teachers of the college have also enrolled in the 15-day workshop.

 

Poor road work draws flak
NONGSTOIN, Sep 12: Poor construction of the 37-km-long Riangdo-Athiabari road in West Khasi Hills has caught the attention of the Ri Nongtrai Sport and Social Welfare Association, which inspected the ongoing construction work on Wednesday, and concluded that the road was not constructed as per the detailed project report (DPR). The association found that the culverts and canals were not properly constructed, and the retaining wall had already collapsed. The association has strongly condemned the TC Construction Company that undertook the project, and is demanding a joint inspection with the PWD. It may be mentioned that the 37-km Riangdo-Athiabari road was sanctioned by the state government in 2022 at an estimated cost of Rs 99.76 crore.
