SHILLONG, Sep 12: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday dismissed concerns over the possibility of India being renamed as “Bharat” and said that controversy is being created where there is none.
“The Constitution is very clear in saying ‘India, which is Bharat’. I think there is no controversy,” the CM said when asked for his reaction on the issue.
“It is a question of using the language and I don’t think there is anything wrong in using either the word Bharat or India as it all depends on the situation you are in. The Constitution mandates us to use either of the words and I am proud of both,” he said.
On the proposal for “one nation, one election”, he said that he would wait for the proposal to come.
Asked if the Assembly would pass a resolution against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he said, “Give me the document and then I will tell you if I will object to it or not.”
