SHILLONG, Sep 13: The Opposition Congress is all set to move a resolution against implementation of the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the autumn session of the Assembly scheduled to start on September 15.
Opposition Leader, Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the session is short and not many issues can be taken up over the course of five days. “However, we will bring a resolution against the UCC but whether it will be admitted or not is a different thing,” he said.
Apart from the UCC, the party is also planning to raise issues like the controversy over the National Education Policy, deficiencies in water supply, health, etc.
As per the calendar, three days have been allotted for government business and two days for private members.
On the first day of the session, the Speaker will announce the report of the Business Advisory Committee. The government will lay bills, ordinances, orders, notifications, reports, rules and regulations. Additionally, the government will also present the supplementary demands for grants and supplementary appropriation for 2023-24.
On the second and fourth days (Sept 19 and 21), private members’ business will be taken up in the form of private members’ bills, motions and resolutions.
On September 20, the House will vote on the supplementary demands for grants.
On the final day on September 22, the House will pass the Meghalaya Appropriation (No. III) Bill, 2023 and other government bills.
