SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh has cast aspersions on 10 pressure groups for demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to check influx illegal migrants into the State.

“I am not sure if the people of the State are in favour of such a mechanism. Perhaps, it must be a demand of only a few NGOs,” Lyngdoh said here on Wednesday.

According to him, the right platform to have a clear understanding of the minds of the people supporting or rejecting any issue is through elections.

“Otherwise, I do not see any other mechanism to understand the pulse of the common people. At the moment, it is the only NGOs who are loudly raising the voice for implementation of the ILP system. But this cannot be considered to be the voice of the common people of the State,” Deputy Chief Minister said.
