Body to check disappearing Garo vocabularies

TURA, Sep 17: With an aim to retain, restore and improve the fast disappearing original Garo vocabularies, prominent citizens from Tura on Saturday, held a at the Extension Training Centre Conference Hall in Dakopgre, which was chaired by former GHADC CEM, PK Sangma.
The members present in the meeting expressed their views concerning the fast degrading of the Garo language which was once rich in its own vocabularies without having to borrow from other languages.
After threadbare deliberations, a new forum under the nomenclature ‘Ku•mandi Kotok’, meaning ‘The Working Group on Garo Language, socio-cultural activities and literary works, etc’ was formed.
The Ku•mandi Kotok has committed to work in tandem with the existing A•chik Literature Society (ALS) to restore the pristine glory of Garo language, culture and tradition in its future endeavors. A seven member Adhoc Committee was also selected with Purno K Sangma as President, Vicky Rose N. Sangma as Vice President, Arcosh M.Momin as General Secretary, Milkreyash D. Sangma as Joint Secretary, Salning R.Sangma as Treaurer, Edmund K Sangma as Advisor and Mr. M. K. Marak, Rtd MCS officer as Advisor.
Senior citizens from all walks of life hailing from different parts of Assam and Meghalaya attended the meeting.
