Shillong, September 18: The Alpha Hotel in Secunderabad faced closure by the Food Safety Wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) due to serious food safety and hygiene issues. The action followed a complaint by a customer, prompting a follow-up inspection two days later.

As per IANS, during the initial inspection, officials uncovered significant deviations from safety standards at the hotel. They collected food samples under suspicion of violating the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, sending them to the state food laboratory for testing. The hotel management was issued a notice, instructing them to address the identified problems and temporarily close the premises.

However, during the subsequent inspection, it was evident that the management had not taken the necessary steps to rectify the hygiene concerns. The Food Security Wing officials concluded that the food safety issues had not been adequately addressed, leading GHMC to seal the hotel. The municipal body also forwarded the case to the district administration for further actions against the hotel’s management.

Previously, the hotel’s management had faced legal action after a customer, Mohammed Zameeruddin, reported falling ill after having breakfast at the establishment on September 15. According to his complaint to the Monda Market police station, he and his friends had ordered Mutton Kheema Roti, leading to one of them, Mahmood, vomiting suddenly.

The complainant alleged that an unpleasant odor emanated from the dish, resulting in a case registered under Sections 273 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code.
