SHILLONG: Justice Prafulla Chandra Pant, a Judge of Uttarakhand High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
Justice Pant, who will succeed first Chief Justice of Meghlaya High Court Justice T Meena Kumar, who retired from service last month, will be sworn in at Raj Bhawan on Friday. Meghalaya Governor Dr KK Paul will administer the oath of office to the newly-appointed Chief Justice.
Sources informed that the Meghalaya High Court received the official intimation pertaining to appointment of Justice Pant from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday.
Born in Pithoragarh district of then undivided Uttar Pradesh, he joined the UP Judicial Service in 1976 and held different posts. After the creation of Uttarakhand, he was the first Secretary, Judicial, of the state. He became Additional Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court in June 2004 and was promoted to the post of Judge in February, 2008.
Since the retirement of Justice T Meena Kumar, Justice T Nandakumar Singh has been officiating as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.
