Shillong, September 26: In a surprising turn of events, the alleged love jihad case in Bengaluru, where a woman techie accused her former boyfriend, a software engineer from Jammu and Kashmir, has turned out to be fabricated drama by the woman herself.
As per IANS, police investigations have found no evidence of a love jihad angle in the case and concluded that the woman made false accusations after her breakup with her boyfriend.
Although the love jihad charges against the accused man have been dropped, the police will continue to investigate charges of rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the complainant woman from Bengaluru and the accused from Kashmir had ended their relationship two years ago. More recently, the man became engaged to another woman.
Unable to accept this development, the woman, who is five years older than the accused, falsely accused him of being involved in a love jihad, according to the police.
The 32-year-old Mojeef Ashraf Baig from Jakura in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested last week based on the woman techie’s complaint, facing charges of rape, unnatural sex, criminal intimidation, and cheating.
The woman software professional had initially claimed that the man, with whom she had a relationship, coerced her into adopting Islam. She also alleged that, as part of a supposed love jihad, the accused exploited her sexually after promising marriage.
Recognizing the sensitivity of the issue, a special police team was dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir to apprehend the accused.
The FIR has been filed against Mojeef Ashraf Baig, who used to reside in Shikaripalya in Electronics City, Bengaluru.
According to the police, the accused and the techie met in Shikaripalya, formed a friendship, and eventually entered into a relationship. The woman claimed that after promising to marry her, the accused pressured her to convert to Islam, despite their earlier agreement to have a secular court marriage. She refused to comply and insisted that he honor their initial arrangement.
Additionally, she alleged that the accused’s brother, Morif Ashraf, threatened her with harm.
In connection with the case, the police have also filed a case under the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act.
