Shillong, September 26: X Corp is set to unveil audio and video call features for its premium, subscription-only users, following CEO Linda Yaccarino’s announcement of the platform’s transition into an “everything app” last month.

As per IANS, tech veteran and investor Chris Messina revealed new code in the X app that supports audio and video calls, allowing users to connect with Verified users they follow or contacts from their address book.

“As hinted in Linda’s sizzle reel, X will be adding audio and video calls shortly,” Messina shared on X’s rival platform Threads. He added, “You will, of course, have to pay for that feature because Skype is dead.”

The feature’s description states, “Take messaging to the next level with audio and video calls,” and users can choose with whom they are comfortable using this feature.

In recent months, X Corp underwent significant changes, including substantial layoffs and platform modifications. Yaccarino, in her first TV interview as X Corp CEO, mentioned that the company is on the brink of breaking even.

She highlighted the impending arrival of video calls on the platform, emphasizing X’s aspiration to become an “everything app” similar to China’s WeChat.

Yaccarino also mentioned that users will soon be able to make video chat calls without sharing their phone numbers with others on the platform. She discussed other forthcoming features such as long-form videos, creator subscriptions, and plans for digital payments.

Elon Musk, X’s former CEO, has long envisioned Twitter evolving into an “everything app” akin to China’s WeChat.
