SHILLONG, Sep 26: The state government is targetting to start the Shillong Engineering College (SEC) from the next academic session (2024-25).
“As soon as the infrastructure is ready, we will sit and discuss whether classes can start from the next academic session,” Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said on Tuesday.
The SEC is yet to get approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Earlier, a government official disclosed that the state government had created different posts in the College but the issue of roster delayed the recruitment process. The government will recruit the teaching and non-teaching staff through a special recruitment drive, the official said.
The SEC was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on January 16 this year.
The college is located on a campus area of about 7.8 acres, within the premises of the Shillong Polytechnic at Mawlai Kynton Massar.
The college will cater to degree courses in three engineering branches — civil, electrical and mining, with an intake capacity of 30 students for each branch.
