Shillong, September 27: Following the dissolution of its alliance with the BJP in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK is undergoing a transformation, with plans to appoint organizers in each Assembly seat.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, the AIADMK, the primary opposition party in Tamil Nadu, secured 66 MLAs with a vote share of 33.29%. However, the party decided to break its political alliance with the BJP and is now looking to form a new coalition ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In contrast, the DMK won 133 Assembly seats with a vote share of 37.7%, resulting in a narrow 4.41% difference between the two main Dravidian parties in the 2021 state Assembly elections. This slim margin has given the AIADMK the confidence to sever ties with the BJP, which it considered “arrogant.”

During the 2021 elections, the BJP, riding on the AIADMK’s popularity, secured four Assembly seats but had a modest vote share of only 2.61%.

As per IANS, a senior AIADMK state-level functionary, speaking anonymously, stated, “After announcing the end of our alliance with the BJP and NDA, we received numerous calls from various political parties, including some aligned with the DMK front, expressing interest in further cooperation. We are confident that we’ve made the right decision at the right time.”

Starting from the second week of October, the AIADMK will appoint organizers in each Assembly constituency. Their responsibilities will include coordinating with booth presidents and secretaries, updating voter lists, and organizing activities at the grassroots level to highlight the shortcomings of both the Central and State governments.

The AIADMK also plans to address issues such as corruption within the DMK government and failures of the state government, while promoting Tamil pride and raising concerns about the BJP’s treatment of the legacies of former Chief Ministers, C.N. Annadurai and J. Jayalalithaa.
