SHILLONG, Sep 27: The Centre will release Rs 200 crore to the KHADC, earmarked through the 15th Finance Commission under the tied and untied grant. The funds will be made available to the council before the Durga Puja holidays, KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem said on Wednesday.
In addition, the state government has releases Rs 14 crore to the KHADC as share of royalty on minor minerals, he said.
“We expect to receive another Rs 30 crore as our share from the taxes collected by the Transport department as well as royalty on major minerals,” Syiem said.
He asked the members to submit proposals for projects relating to water, solid waste management, health and others.
The council would not be able to sanction funds received under the tied grant for construction of offices of the Dorbar Shnong, school buildings, construction of market and others.
The council will also allocate funds for a traditional music institute as part of an effort to create a platform for budding musicians specialising in traditional Khasi folk music.
He also said that the executive committee has taken steps to streamline the functioning of the council to be able to submit the utilisation certificate (UCs) on time as per the guidelines of the 15th Finance Commission.
