Shillong, September 28: Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema, and Shiva Narwal of India secured a gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Team shooting event at the Asian Games. The shooting excellence continued for India at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre.

As per IANS, following a remarkable day when Indian shooters claimed seven medals, including two golds, the pistol shooters contributed to India’s exceptional performance by clinching their fourth gold medal in the competition.

Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema, and Shiva Narwal achieved a combined score of 1734, with an impressive 50 hits in the inner 10 circle, securing the gold ahead of China (1733-62x) and Vietnam (1730-59x).

Their scores were consistent, with an initial series of 284 followed by 287, 291, 294, 290, and 288 in the subsequent five series.

This victory marks India’s sixth gold medal overall at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

In the team event, Sarabjot Singh recorded the highest score for the Indian team with 580 points, while Arjun Singh achieved 578, and Shiva scored 576.

However, in the Individual section, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema couldn’t replicate their team success, finishing fourth and eighth, respectively.

Sarabjot Singh had opportunities in the Individual event and was in contention for the bronze medal. Unfortunately, a disappointing score of 8.8 on his 19th shot dashed his hopes, leading to his elimination with a score of 219.9.

Speaking after the final, Sarabjot expressed his happiness at winning the gold in the team competition but also disappointment at missing out on an individual medal. He acknowledged making a couple of mistakes that cost him a podium finish. Looking ahead, he stated his goal of participating in the Asian championship with hopes of securing a quota place for the Paris Olympics.
