SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), which is one of the chief supporters of the ILP system, has stated that implementation of the ILP will not hinder the State’s development.

“How much has the State developed since it achieved its statehood?” KSU leader Donald Thabah questioned on Sunday, while dismissing remarks by Congress leaders that implementation of the ILP will affect the livelihood of the people at large.

“Compared to other states, Meghalaya is still far behind in terms of development,” Thabah said, adding that recently UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi had lauded Mizoram for being one of the fastest developing states in the country.

“ILP was implemented in Mizoram in 1987, yet it has managed to progress so fast. “So why can’t Meghalaya relate to Mizoram in term of development?” he questioned.

The KSU leader also reiterated the union’s resolve to continue demanding implementation of ILP.
