NHPC official abducted from Assam

Guwahati: Suspected armed militants abducted a senior official of the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) in Sonitpur district of north Assam while the official was coming from his work site at Tawang on Arunachal Pradesh on late Saturday evening.

Police informed that NHPC, General Manager, Anil Kumar Agarwal was abducted by a group six armed militants at Baromile area near Chariduar in Sonitpur district of North Assam after intercepting his Safari vehicle.

The official was coming from the site of 800 MW Tawang Basin Hydro-Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.

The militants who had come on four motor-cycles left behind the driver Kumar Tamang and the Safari vehicle of the official.

The driver informed the nearest Assam Rifles camp immediately after the abduction.

The needle of suspicion is pointed to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) faction led by Sangbijit.

The Army and the police have launched search operation in jungle areas of Baromile in search of the abducted official.

The NHPC official was coming to Tezpur from Tawang and was scheduled fly to Bangaluru on Sunday.
