SHILLONG, Oct 2: Commemorating the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Governor Phagu Chauhan on Monday paid a floral tribute to the ‘Father of the Nation’. Additionally, he also honored another prominent figure in India’s history, Lal Bahadur Shastri, who served as the country’s second Prime Minister.
During the event, the Governor inaugurated a book exhibition, which was organised by the National Book Trust of India. This exhibition featured a collection of books related to the life and contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and the other unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle.
In addition to the book exhibition, the Governor also took the opportunity to release a book titled Pathways to Progress: India’s National Education Policy 2020 Unveiled, authored by Dr Sagar Onkarrao Manjare, Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya, and Dr Sarika Dixit, Registrar of Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya.
The programme drew attendees from various schools in Shillong. It also saw the presence of dedicated officers and staff members of Raj Bhavan, who joined in paying their respects and celebrating the legacy of these iconic leaders.
