Workshop on paediatric visual system assessment

SHILLONG, Oct 2: A two-day workshop on paediatric visual system assessment in normal and special children was organised by Bansara Eye Care Centre along with the Optometry Council of India (OCI) which concluded here on Saturday.
The event was conducted at Bansara Eye Care Centre located in Laitumkhrah.
Distinguished and renowned doctors (specialising in the field of ophthalmology) from outside Meghalaya led the session as guest faculty.
Topics related to human vision development and abnormal visual development; methods of vision assessment in infants and children for distance and near for various age groups and special populations using various visual acuity charts assessments and diagnosis of neurological issues in children and low vision assessments in children were the prime subjects covered by guest faculty.
A total of 30 participants, mostly optometrists and ophthalmologists from the state and outside attended the event.  Among the guest faculty who led the session was Dr Prema Chande, professor at Lotus College of Optometry, Mumbai, who covered topics concerning history taking in children and low vision assessment in children.
On the other hand, MS Neena Biswas, also professor at Lotus College of Optometry, covered topics on methods of vision assessment in infants and children. Anton Decruse Wanbah and Dakaruhipaya War, faculty at Bansara Institute of Ophthalmic Science, covered the topic concerning binocular vision.
Dr Saurabh Korgaonkar, a senior consultant ophthalmologist, Bansara Eye Care Centre, took up a topic related to the assessment and diagnosis of neurological issues in children.
Attendees, who were invited to the event, had their doubts clarified on topics related to their field of interest during the interactive session with the guest faculty.
