Shillong, October 4: National record holder Avinash Sable achieved a historic feat by winning a silver medal in the Men’s 5000m event, marking India’s first medal in this category since the 1982 Asian Games.

As per IANS, this remarkable achievement took place on Wednesday. Another Indian athlete, Gulveer Singh, also participated in the event and secured a fourth-place finish.

Notably, Avinash Sable had previously secured a gold medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event on Sunday. His outstanding performance in that event shattered the previous Asian Games record.

Sable clocked an impressive time of 8 minutes and 19.50 seconds, surpassing the record set by Iran’s Hossein Keyhani during the Asian Games in 2018, which stood at 8 minutes and 22.79 seconds.
