Office picketing fails in West Khasi Hills on Day 1

NONGSTOIN: The office picketing called the HANM in West Khasi Hills District in protest against the Government’s refusal to oust the Deputy Commissioner of the District received dismal response from government employees with a 60 per cent overall turnout on Monday.

Most of the government offices were heavily guarded by security forces to keep the HANM members at bay. The HANM members, however, did visit some offices which were left unmanned and asked the staff to leave their work and office.

Though the employees left the office for a while, they returned after a while and resumed their duties. Miffed at the dismal response, HANM (West Khasi Hills) vice president Wills Soshiang issued a stern warning to the Government employees asking them to ‘fully co-operate and respect’ the office picketing called by HANM.

“This picketing has been called for the greater interest of the people of the district. We have made it clear that office picketing would be observed in West Khasi Hills on Sept 23 and 24. We will not be responsible if any harm comes in the way of the Government employees while they are on their way to the office or while they are in the office. You have already been warned,” Soshiang told The Shillong Times.

Sohshiang also stated that it was unfortunate that the officers were in a state of denial and warned they would have to pay for it heavily.
