SHILLONG, Oct 5: All vehicles plying in Shillong will soon be under surveillance as the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) is likely to be completed by March next year.
Informing this on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the government will immediately implement the project once the ICCC completed.
CCTV cameras and modern equipment will be installed to keep an eye on vehicles plying in the city under the Shillong Smart City project.
Speaking further on the Shillong Smart City project, Dhar said altogether 17 projects are making progress.
“These projects which include the Laitumkhrah and Polo markets, multi-level parking and others will be complete by June 2024,” he said, while adding that the smart road project may take more time as it involves different components of works.
On traffic jams in Shillong, Dhar said shifting of the Secretariat to New Shillong Township may take two-three years but it would contribute immensely in easing traffic in the city.
Asked if the odd-even formula would be implemented in the city, he said a committee is examining how the idea can be implemented and at the same the government is also trying to work out a policy.
He sounded confident once the new parking lots are completed there would be some relief from the traffic congestion once the new parking lots are completed.
These proposed parking lots would be able to accommodate around 700 vehicles, he added.
