Wangala Committee condoles members demise

Tura, Oct 6: The Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee has condoled the demise of its former member Late Leander K. Marak.

“Pa Marak was a prominent patriotic Garo leader who, in his various capacities had stupendously contributed to the A•chik society in particular and to the government in general during his long innings of socio-cultural activities. During his tenure as the Block Development Officer, (BDO) at Rongram Development Block, he made immense contributions both to the government and towards the society with his utmost sincerity and responsibility for which he had earned a good reputation throughout his life,” the committee said, in its message.

According to the committee, Marak was also the longest serving Chairman of the Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee and served in the post for 16 long years in a row by contributing  a lot towards the preservation and promotion of A•chik culture and tradition.

As an undisputed leader for more than a decade and a half, Marak successfully conducted a series of 100 Drums Wangala Festivals every year at Asanang without any break thereby winning the hearts of millions.

“We, the members of the Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee, deeply condole the demise of our late leader Pa. L. K. Marak who left for his heavenly abode on October 5, leaving his beloved family nembers, relatives and colleagues in society. May the Almighty God our Heavenly Father bestow solace upon each and every bereaved family member,” Committee Vice Chairman, Purno K Sangma said.
