NONGSTOIN: Nepali residents of Langpih area organized a rally at Umwali on Saturday last denouncing the Meghalaya Government and demanding immediate removal of the Meghalaya Police Outpost from Langpih, a delayed report stated.

Hundreds of Nepali residents gathered at Umwali while screaming ‘Assam Zindabad, Meghalaya Murdabad’.

Following the rally, a public meeting was held at the same place, where the Nepali residents denounced the Meghalaya Government while asking the Assam Government to arrest those responsible for the killing of Nal Bahadur Dorji on August 29 at Umwali. They also demanded removal of the Meghalaya Police Outpost from Langpih.

After the meeting, the crowd went to the Umwali Lower Primary School which was housing Meghalaya Police personnel deputed at Langpih for patrolling duties, and again reiterated their demand for removal of the Meghalaya Police Outpost.

Meanwhile, Khasi residents of Langpih have condemned the show of strength put up by the Nepali residents. “The rally organised by the Nepali residents rally at Umwali was totally uncalled for. They (Nepali residents) have no right to denounce the Meghalaya Government on Meghalaya soil as they are just temporary settled there, and that too illegally,” said a Khasi resident of Umwali.
