SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on Friday dropped the hint that the ILP demand could be a ‘political conspiracy’.

“You are not even allowing the government or rather you are saying that we don’t believe in the government. If one pays heed to the rhetoric coming from various angles, particularly the Opposition, I have reasons to believe that they are adding fuel to fire, and I have reasons to believe that they must be in close contact with these agitating pressure groups,” the Chief Minister stated while addressing newsmen after a Cabinet meeting on Friday.

“We are politicians, we know how they operate. I think people of the State are intelligent enough to draw an inference and being an alert citizen myself, besides being a politician, I think I am capable of drawing inferences,” he added.

The Chief Minister also asserted that UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh had never aggressively campaigned for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) while he was a part and parcel of the Government.

In a veiled attack on the UDP working president, the Chief Minister said that politicians remain silent on the issue of ILP or influx as long as they are a part and parcel of the Government.

“Suddenly when they are out  of the government they pronounce that ILP is the only answer,” Dr. Sangma stated.

“So many Governments have come and gone as have so many Chief Ministers but this Government is actually doing something to address this issue,” he added.
