Shillong, Oct 21: In a recent match during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Jaipur, Meghalaya’s bowlers displayed a commendable performance, while their batting left much to be desired, resulting in a disappointing 66-run loss to Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
Despite being on the expensive side, Akash Kumar Choudhary (3/36 in 4 overs) and Anish Charak (3/41 in 4) both managed to secure three wickets each, while Riboklang Hynniewta (1/19 in 3) contributed with one wicket. Chhattisgarh, who batted first after losing the toss, was restricted to 162/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Kilco Marak, although wicketless, effectively curbed the scoring rate, conceding just 14 runs in 3 overs. Notably, four Chhattisgarh batters were dismissed without scoring, including one in the very first over bowled by Choudhary.
On the batting front, Meghalaya struggled to find their momentum, with their highest scorer being guest player Nakul Verma, who managed only 20 runs while opening the innings. Guest player Rajesh Bishnoi contributed 15 runs at No. 3. Choudhary remained unbeaten with 10 runs towards the end of the innings.
However, Meghalaya could only muster a total of 96/9, falling significantly short of the target.
Meghalaya’s next match is against Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Despite both teams having lost all four of their previous matches, J&K is expected to put up a strong fight.
In the meantime, Meghalaya’s women’s team will participate in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy against Tamil Nadu today.
In spite of their recent setbacks, Meghalaya’s cricketers remain determined to bounce back stronger in the upcoming matches, both in the men’s and women’s divisions. The team continues to train hard, aiming to harness their collective potential and turn their fortunes around as they look forward to more challenging encounters in the cricketing arena.
