Lajong FC vs Pune FC match on Sunday

SHILLONG: In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the city, the State police are taking necessary precautions to ensure that the first home match of Shillong Lajong FC in the new I-League season against Pune FC to be played at the JN Stadium on Sunday remains incident free.

“Our men would be there at the ground to take stock of the security arrangement. We would ensure that the match remains incident free,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang told reporters here on Saturday.

Kharkrang also said that police would remain alert and thwart any attempts by miscreants to take advantage of the situation by creating trouble during the match.

Shillong Lajong FC general secretary Larsing M Sawyan, however, observed that the current law and order situation in the city would have no bearing on the match scheduled to start at 3:30 pm on Sunday.  “The people of Meghalaya love the game of football. I do not think they would like to tarnish the image of the State by committing some nuisance at the ground,” Sawyan said.

Meanwhile, he informed that there has been a good response from the football lovers as far as sale of tickets are concerned.

“We expect to see a packed house with a greater number of fans during Sunday’s match as compared to the match against Mohun Bagan in the 2009-10 season,” Sawyan added.
