SHILLONG, Oct 26: The state government is expected to call a final meeting with the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) on Harijan Colony relocation issue before submitting the affidavit to the High Court of Meghalaya.
“Hopefully by next month, we will be able to call them and we will sit once and for all and we will submit the affidavit again to the High Court,” said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
He said that the state government was meaning to hold a meeting with the HPC but the Durga Puja celebrations were beckoning.
While the relocation hangs fire despite the idea being mooted several years ago, the High Court, it may be recalled, had made a clarion call for every endeavour to ensure that the issues between the state government and Harijan Panchayat Committee are resolved in course of this calendar year.
Earlier in one of the hearings, the court observed that despite the previous order of September 29, 2023, the state had reasoned that there was still room for a negotiated settlement and that the parties should be afforded more time.
