Sikhs in New York City call for protection
New York, Oct 27: The Sikh community in New York City has demanded protection following two apparent hate crimes in the city, one of them fatal. The Sikh community, as well as local traders, gathered in front of the Richmond Hill Gurudwara, demanding protection against hate crimes, CBS News reported on Friday. “I don’t feel safe … when I come out from home,” said Mani Singh Sandhu, who was brutally attacked on an MTA bus last week. Sandhu, 19, described the apparent hate crime attack on a bus in Queens as “disappointing”. Four days later, 68-year-old Jasmer Singh was beaten to death during a road rage incident. His wife witnessed the attack. For a community, which has been dealing with bias and hate since the 9/11 attacks in the US because of their religious attire, the fear is back once again. (PTI)

Imran says another attempt on his life is possible in jail
Lahore, Oct 27: Pakistan’s incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan has claimed yet another attempt on his life may be made through “slow poisoning” in jail because he has refused to leave the country. “Since I won’t agree to leave my country, there is, of course, a danger they (a reference to powerful quarters of the country) will try to make (yet) another attempt on my life while I am in jail. Such an attempt could also be through slow poisoning,” Khan said in his message shared by his family and posted from his X account on Friday. Khan, 71, has been in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi in the Cipher case. Stating that at the moment, he is physically fit, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief added: “I would know if my body was experiencing change from weakness. But they have already made two public attempts to take my life.” (PTI)
