Shillong, Oct 31: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising NEHUTA, NEHUSU and NEHUNSA on Tuesday  intensified agitation against NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla with  non-cooperation movement starting with non-participation in the 111th Academic Council meeting.

The JAC members had first gathered at the multi-use convocation hall where the academic council meeting was supposed to be held.

They later took out a procession from the multi-use convocation hall after learning that the Vice-Chancellor had shifted the venue of the meeting of the Academic Council to the conference room of his office.

After they had gathered at the premises of the VC office, the JAC members barged into the office of the VC to request its members who were inside to attend the meeting of the Academic Council to come out as they were scheduled to hold  JAC General Assembly outside the VC office premises.

Majority of the members complied to the request while one of the Professors had declined to come out which compelled the JAC members to condemn his decision for siding with the wrong doings of the VC.

Following this, the General Assembly meeting of the JAC leaders highlighted  various alleged irregularities and illegalities committed by the VC.

The JAC took this decision in view of the VC’s failure to comply with the deadline to remove the “illegally appointed” contractual technical officer/senior consultant, Rohit Prasad by midnight of October 26.

JAC chairman, Prof Lakhon Kma said the VC was supposed to fulfill the JAC’s demands in a time-bound manner other than removing Prasad immediately. The demands include the immediate appointment of the statutory officers, a university engineer  and the director of the CDC.

He said that the VC neither accepted the deadline for removing Prasad nor initiated any process to fulfill the long-pending issues of the three NEHU associations.
