‘Release arrested president within 48 hours or face action’

SHILLONG: The HNYF West Jaintia Zone on Wednesday served a 48-hour deadline to the State Police to release its president, E Syngkon, who was arrested last month, and has threatened to resort to other methods if the police do not heed to their demand.

“We condemn this act and we demand the police to release Syngkon within 48 hours failing which we will be forced to react,” Rymbai said, adding that this unclear attitude of the police has evoked widespread anger and disappointment among the members of the Federation.

According to the HNYF vice-president, Pynbiang Rymbai, the sudden arrest of the president has provoked the Federation to take recourse to this step, since Syngkon was arrested without any concrete reason. The HNYF alleged that the case registered against him for obstructing a public servant from attending office was baseless.
