Shillong, November 6: Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded on Monday to a deepfake video featuring actor Rashmika Mandanna, emphasizing the importance of addressing such “damaging forms of misinformation on platforms.”

On X, the Union Minister of State (MoS) for IT asserted that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is dedicated to ensuring the “safety and trust” of all internet users.

As per India Today, referring to the IT rules implemented in April 2023, the Union minister highlighted the obligations placed on social media platforms. He stressed that these platforms must “prevent the posting of misinformation by any user” and ensure that, when reported by a user or the government, misinformation is removed within 36 hours.

Chandrasekhar further conveyed on X that in the event of non-compliance with the rules, rule 7 would be invoked, allowing “aggrieved persons to take platforms to court under the provisions of the IPC”.
