ADB loan to be used to get best teachers, infra, says CM

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has welcomed the $100 million Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan to Meghalaya saying fund will ensure that the state gets the best teachers, best infrastructure and improved skill developments for students.

Addressing students at a function organised to distribute mobile tablets here on Wednesday, Dr Sangma informed that the Ministry of Finance has finally cleared an amount of Rs 700 crore as loan approved by ADB for upgradation of infrastructure in different schools of the State.

“We are upgrading the necessary infrastructure of our educational institutions and providing training to teachers.” he stated.

He also said that the education sector tops all the other sectors in the State in terms of employment generation and an analytical data revealed that education generated the maximum employment opportunities.

Manila-based multilateral funding agency Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide UDS 100 million loan to improve secondary education and vocational training in Meghalaya in the next few years.

The project to support human capital development will be its first loan in India to boost education and skills.
