VCs assemble to discuss NEP implementation

SHILLONG, Nov 8: In a first, the vice-chancellors of the private universities of the state came together to discuss the implementation of the New Education Policy 2020, under the theme, ‘A Catalyst for the Transformation of Higher Education.’
Education Minister, Rakkam A Sangma, lauded the private universities for actively implementing the NEP 2020, which is the stepping stone for the improvement of higher education in the state and the country.
The conference was hosted by the Martin Luther Christian University at its Umsawli campus.
Sangma while speaking at the conference also assured the state government’s support and asked the universities to highlight their recommendations on the implementations of the NEP 2020, if any.
He further underscored the need to contextualise the curriculum to the culture and needs of youth in the state.
HM Shangpliang, advisor to the Education department, who was also present pledged his support to the private universities for the implementation of NEP 2020.
The vice chancellors were unanimous in their view that NEP 2020 should be fast-tracked for the benefit of the youth of the state and to help them be on par with the best universities in the country.
The universities which participated in the conclave included the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), CMJ University, North East Adventist University (NEAU), Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) and the host, Martin Luther Christian University.
