State Child Rights Commission notified

SHILLONG: The State Government has formed the Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Social Welfare Minister Deborah Marak laid the notification of rules related to the Commission for Protection of Child Rights in the Assembly on Friday.

The role of the Commission will be to analyze existing laws and policies to assess the compliance with the convention on child rights and undertake inquiries and produce reports on any aspect of policy or practice affecting children.

Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh also notified the rules related to the ban on child labour in the State.

The Government did not receive any suggestion or objection to the draft Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation (Rules) after which it decided to notify the rules to enforce prohibition of child labour in the State.

Lokayukta Amendment Bill: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma introduced certain amendments to the Meghalaya Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2013, in the Assembly on Friday.

The amended Bill intends to make the Lokayukta more effective and potent.

One of the chief amendments is to include the affairs of the District Councils under the purview of the Bill.
