Itanagar: India’s largest public sector undertaking National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) is contempalting to speed up its corporate social responsibilities (CSR) and sustainable development activities under 3000MW Dibang Multipurpose Project (DMP) with several welfare schemes on card. General Manager of the power project V K Maini said this during the handing over of ultrasound machine for Anini District Hospital on Friday, official sources said here on Saturday.

The ultrasound-based diagnostic medical imaging would be used to visualize muscles, tendons, and many internal organs, to capture their size, structure and any pathological lesions.

NHPC is currently taking up welfare schemes like scholarship to meritorious students, skill upgradation, improving health delivery system, support services for agriculture and horticulture activities and education facilities.

“Though NHPC spends Rs 15 lakh annually for Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Roing, not many locals are availing the benefits,” Maini lamented.

“This was due to lack of interest for ITI courses among local people, which are now being availed by students from neighbouring states,” he added.

The corporation further said that funds meant for welfare schemes were not fully realized as great percentage of money is paid as taxes, which sometimes comes to Rs 4-5 lakh. Maini also said about the corporation plans to offer several vocational courses for school and college drop outs, the sources added. (PTI)
